It stands out for its spicy character and smooth taste. Nikka From The Barrel sits at 51.4% ABV (alcohol grades), which contributes to a rich flavor with notes of spice and dried fruit. To create this Japanese premium blended whiskey, ripe malt and grain whiskey are blended to age. The so-called blend, which takes place inside the barrel, creates a harmony of different aromas and flavors. An aged whiskey, which is perfectly connected to the culture of Japan. The Japanese art that goes by the name of Nikka whiskey is the “child” of Masataka Taketsuru, the first person to create Japanese whiskey. With extensive experience in the distillation of Scotch malt, in 1933 he opened his own distillery with the aim of creating his own premium Japanese whiskey. Today, Nikka Japanese whiskeys have 2 distilleries, one in Hokkaido (Yoici Distillery) and one in Miyagi (Miyagikyo/Sendai Distillery). Yoichi is the last distillery in Japan that uses coal heating, something that helps to preserve the traditional character of the spirit. On the other hand, in Miyagikyo, lighter and fruitier whisky is produced, similar to those of the Lowlands of Scotland. It is noteworthy that here they mix malt whisky with grain whisky, a process that very few distilleries in Scotland do.
